Optimum Nutrition Protein Crisp Bar

I have tried a few protein bars previously, such as the ones you get from Lidl before I started trying boxes of ones from My GYm Supplements, such as RAW - blueberry (which was very dry and tasteless but fulfilled my needs). However, I moved onto this and I've eaten nearly half of the box so I can be sure it wasn't me and I can give a true reflection of this product as, a lot of people will have been in the same position as me, and rely on others reviewing the product to gauge whether to buy it or not.

So the bars are actually bigger than I thought they'd be - just bigger than the size of a Snickers or Mars Bar - and are kind of like bars of Rice Crispies with a chocolate base. It's a bit more 'solid' than you'd expect and has more of a 'chew' to each bite. Not as tasty as 'normal' chocolate bar (I wish!) but certainly tastier than any of the other bars I'd tried.

I got the Chocolate Brownie flavour and didn't find it too sweet for my taste. It was also on a deal at £15 for 10 bars which was not the cheapest but nearly - beaten only by a few brands - but it does give you 20g of protein per bar which was more than a lot of those, cheaper, alternatives.

For me, I think I've found 'it' and I don't intend trying any other protein bars and will stick with this one.

The peanut butter crisp is nice when you bite into it but then the soapy/detergent taste comes through after a few chews and properly hits when swallowed. Would be interesting to know if any of the other flavours are like this? Good protein content mind and I’ll force myself to eat the rest - can't let protein go to waste. GET SOME 💪🏼😂

Love the crispy texture and adequately chocolaty taste. Not to mention the macro is great. I used to love marshmallow one bit it was bit too sweet and got a bit sick of it after a few boxes. This one is my new favourite now.

The flatulence caused by these little buggers beggars belief. Consumption of a single bar is the equivalent of digesting six whole garlic raw with a can of beans on the side. Aside from the flatulence, you are also bound to experience stomach ache like never before.

While the taste is pleasant, the price decent, and the protein content great, I simply cannot give these bars anything above 1 star due to the extremely unpleasant side effects. Considering that there are other bars out there that do not cause any issues whatsoever, I would steer clear of these.

The bars taste incredible - and the macros and really good

Sadly, they are quite expensive, so I have gone back to the good old lidl own brand which marco wise are comparable....and cost a fraction of the price

I absolutely love these bars, some of the best protein bars I've ever eaten. Although, they are very pricey compared to other brands but at least you won't have that cardboard texture! Definitely worth a buy when they are on sale!

Had a similar problem to other reviewers and didn't get on well with this product, tried it out after the other protein bars (3g fiber per 60g bar) went off subscribe and save.

Unfortunately because of the high fiber content, 13g per 60g bar, I found these caused unbearable bloating and indigestion for the rest of the day after only having 1 bar, definitely will be avoiding in future and looking for something with lower fiber content.

They are also quite dry and tasteless, are difficult to finish without some liquid to wash them down.

First bite taste weird but after few seconds, taste ok. I would give 5* if the taste was good from begin. Also i had a good energy after ive eat it.

Nearest thing there is to a health (ier) toffee crisp! Some protein bars are like chewing carpet but these are not. They are surprisingly nice and good enough to trick me into thinking I'm eating a chocolate bar and not a protein bar. Will be ordering again.

Love these bars because they're a little savoury instead of horrifically over-sweetened like most low carb bars.

Texture's going to be a bit dry for some, but once again that's a nice change from squishy chewy bars as well.

If you want something a little different with great macros, definitely give these a go.

Tasty and full of protein. Usually I feel full after half of a bar. I took the peanut butter taste.

If you'll buy it, you'll not regret it.

Pretty solid protein bar. Reminiscent of a cereal bar, gladly got through the whole box and I will re order some when they come back on offer. Personally I think their standard price is a little too much but other than that well worth a pop I think, they're not the best tasting bar in the world but if you want a quick breakfast they are genuinely perfect

These taste fine, though a bit artificial. My main issue is that it causes me to be so gassy for the rest of the day, to the point that it's not worth it. The other ON products are fine - it's just the crispy bars that causes this problem.

I rarely write reviews but I wanted to address some people who complain about indigestion. They must be eating too many of these bars. If I have one bar per day I am ok but if I double up then it causes flatulence. I understand one bar may not be enough intake of protein but find another source then if you don't want the farts! To be fair, majority of protein bars cause flatulence if eaten in large quantities.

Overall it's a nice protein snack. Chocolate and Peanut flavours are sweet but do not contain sugar, instead they have sugar alcohol.
