Flawed for flavour

Eleat cereal ticks all the right boxes on paper- the nutritional info is good, the plant basis and ingredients list is good, and so on. On paper, I should really like this cereal. The problem is, it also tastes of paper. I’d tried other Eleat flavours before with mixed results, and I was optimistic that this Mocha Madness flavour would be a good one, as I’m a fan of Fuel5K's Mocha flavour and this might have ended up the same. But there's very little coffee in the flavour at all. The result is a little bit of that toffee-caramel flavour with a hint of cocoa, that reminds me of Lion cereal.

While I’m glad the brand has steered away from artificial sweeteners, there's still something of an odd tang to it that reminds me of those sweeteners, like eating “sugar free toffee” and realising that toffee is meant to taste of burnt sugar, and when it doesn't, the result is odd. It's one of those cases where “low sugar” is seen as a marketing virtue, but when you taste it, you wish they’d put a touch more sugar in it after all.

The packaging promises something delicious, with lumps of milk chocolate and coffee beans pouring down, but what actually pours out of the box is a very plain and cheap-looking brown cereal that begins to disappoint before you even taste it. However on a positive note, despite looking like cheap grain balls like the poor quality kids’ cereal you can get in some budget retailers, this cereal does at least have a filling effect, and unlike those kids’ cereals, if I have this for breakfast at least I’m not hungry by 10am.

At the current asking price of a fiver per 250g bag, it's substantially more expensive than the Fuel5K brand's Mocha boxes (currently about three quid for a 400g box). While this may score higher on protein and lower on sugar than that cereal, it fails in the one crucial respect- I don't actually enjoy eating it, and if I've got both options on the cereal shelf, I know which one I’ll be reaching for.

I want to like the Eleat brand, I really do, but they've got to sort out some of their flavour problems and make things that taste good, not just worthy.

What'S This?
Healthy protein packed cereal

This is the first flavour I've tried in this brand. Its essentially small crunchy crispy protein balls packed with protein and fibre. Best of all for me is that they're gluten free as I'm a Coeliac.

Each pack has 5x 50g servings, which I found was a good amount. The ingredients seem pretty healthy and its low sugar but it does contain extra sweetener from Stevia. The taste is fairy balanced and its not overly sweet, but my wife disliked the Stevia. She's quite sensitive to the taste of sweeteners and just thought the Stevia was too strong. Personally I didn't find it an issue.

If I'm honest, I'm, not the biggest fan of coffee flavoured things and just prefer my coffee in a cup with milk. The flavour isn't that strong, but you do get a coffee twang from it, but given the flavour thats to be expected!

Its not the cheapest cereal, but I'm used to having to pay a fortune for Gluten free cereals. I had it with milk and it tasted OK. Its not my absolute favourite go to cereal ever, but iff you're looking for something with good ingredients, high protein, low sugar, vegan and gluten free then you should give it a go.

Unpleasant

Unpleasant tasting crunchy balls with an over-powering taste of cinnamon and aniseed. The combination of the cereal and oat milk just didn't taste right. It left a ghastly and lingering aftertaste. It's subjective of course, but my partner was of the same opinion.

Just ok

Not the greatest tasting protein cereal. Prefer the vanilla. Crunchy and filling but also a bit sickly.

Tastes like cardboard

There is nothing 'blitz' about this product, it does taste like cardboard, I'm glad I've only got 7 more pots to get through, although I might feed them to my hens instead. Very disappointed as the marketing video really impressed me so I was hoping for something tasty.

pretty vile

There are better and tastier ways to get protein, this product is like eating cardboard that is not only not tasty but also is so hard that you need effort to chew it - there is no crisp to it like a cereal should have. I tried putting it in milk and throw it into yoghurt but it didn't soften or taste any better... I would not recommend getting this product.

Tastes ok

I think this is great high protein cereal. Taste is such a thing that does not have friends. I personally quite like the taste of caramelised biscuits and found d these cereal to be of good and pleasant flavour.

Delicious, crunchy cereal.

An excellent product for aiding a weight loss diet and building muscles.

Very satisfying and really tasty. Can be eaten anytime. Tried the Vanilla, Chocolate and Caramelised Biscuit, all very good. Both the individual pots and bigger pouches are value for money.

Easy to use, can be eaten with or without milk.

Best Flavour Yet

I was unsure about this one as I'm not normally a coffee drinker! But, it's the perfect level of coffee to add a bit more depth to the chocolatey flavour - really recommend it! And the new recipe is great, the cereal balls are noticeably lighter

Great taste!

What a great taste for such a healthy breakfast cereal.

As a busy working vegan, found this cereal tasty, filling and also used as a snack during the day.

Definitely will buy again and will recommend to friends and family!

High in protein, low in taste

This cereal comes in neat little resealable pouches that keep the food fresh and contain 5 portions each.

The recommended serving is 50 grams which is enough to fill me up for a while but doesn't look huge in the bowl. I found I was hungry again at the same point as I normally would be after eating my normal serving of 45 grams of my usual cereal.

The cereal doesn't have much taste to me, which is disappointing as I love coffee and chocolate so I was expecting to enjoy this. It just tastes of nothing and has a very dry texture.

On the plus side it is high in protein and low in sugar, so if you need a quick and convenient high protein breakfast then this is an option. However, I wouldn't personally buy it again.

Tasty and satisfying breakfast option

I've really enjoyed this high-protein cereal. The mocha flavour is delicious without being too sweet, and it keeps me full for longer. It's a great, healthier alternative to regular cereal, and I love that it's low in sugar. It's become a regular part of my breakfast routine.

No more boring porridge

For breakfast I usually have porridge. This gets boring really quick. I've been looking for a breakfast that is high in protein/nutrients and low in calories. I've tried a few Eleat Flavours and this might be a new favourite

Good portions, and not the bland flavour I expected

This isn't my new favourite cereal, but at the same time, it's the best pot-based convenient cereal that I've encountered. It doesn't have some of the problems I've found from other such pots- most notably, there's actually a generous 50g helping of cereal in here, which feels like a real bowlful, and when poured into a bowl, does match the amount I’d have poured if pouring from a packet.

Calling the flavour ‘Vanilla Thriller’ does sound like a desperate attempt to make flavourless cereal sound exciting, but in fact there's a genuine vanilla flavour here, and it does have an ice-cream-ish taste that's pretty pleasant. It's still a little bland compared to other brands but at least it does taste of something, which some things labelled ‘vanilla’ sometimes don't.

It also has a satisfying crunch to it, which it manages to retain for a little while after sitting in milk.

The pot convenience is hard to fault, especially when it's a cereal that does work quite well if you eat it dry. The card, foil and plastic of the pot can all be easily detached for efficient recycling.

The only thing I would change about this product is the price. At over two quid per pot, it's a very cost-inefficient way to buy cereal, and you’re paying quite a lot for the portability and convenience of it, so it does feel like it suffers from the usual ‘sports premium’ markup. But next time I’m going to need to take my breakfast with me for after my morning exercise, or even next time I’m going to be away from home and want to save money by not paying for a hotel breakfast, this is what I’ll reach for.

Dust anyone? Dust!

It's a good concept and was excited when I found them, but

They taste like cardboard ✔️

They are as hard as a coffee nail ✔️

They are as dusty as the Sahara ✔️

Not sure that's even worth the 15g of protein, let alone the price! If they taste like nesquik you could compare and compete at the price but they’re not! There are tasty bars and shakes you could buy that would help you reach your protein consumption, don't waste your money here!

I like the concept but the taste needs a little work

I really like the idea of a low sugar high protein cereal but the taste is a little dry and not too enjoyable. I will eat the 8 pots I have but not sure I would re-order.

Give it a try!

I've been trying out different protein cereals, and this is one of my favourites. It has a mild strawberry flavour, which lingers in the milk. The cereal itself if firm, and crunchy. It keeps the crunch and doesn't get soggy. It is filling, and I’d recommend trying it if you are looking for a protein packed cereal.

It tastes nothing like biscoff

Dunno what the other people are smoking, this tastes nothing like biscoff. It's a weird cinnamon taste. Grim

Tasty, convenient, healthy breakfast cereal!

Like the convenience and taste with reduced sugar of this breakfast cereal.

Tastes good and as I am gluten sensitive can enjoy cereal again in the morning.

Great idea - will re-order.

delicious Christmas-y flavour

These are delicious! They do not taste like Biscoff, they taste like the German spiced Lebkuchen cakes you get on Christmas markets, crunchy cinnamon & nutmeg, and not too sweet. I enjoy them with some oat milk. Yummy and healthy option!

Crunch, Crunch and Crunch (Yum)

ELEAT Protein Cereal 8 x 50g Pots

Strawberry Blitz Flavour.

This cereal comes in a box with a perforated opening so you can easily store them in your cupboard or stack them to save room if you are buying a few different flavours.

*Don't do what I did and cut along the sealing tape with a sharp knife as I sliced through the lids (see photo)

The cereal is gluten free and dairy free and has very good ingredients and also vegan friendly too.

This pot of cereal looks very appetising and the little balls are pink in colour which look fun to eat.

The aroma from the cereal pot is pleasant and when you pour on the milk the balls float to the top. The milk does not change colour so the balls must not be just covered in strawberry dust like many chocolate cereals do.

The taste test has passed with flying colours and I love how crunchy they are, not crunchy like a granola type of crunch where you end up with depression by the time you get to the end of the bowl-they take far too long to eat and ache your jaw ha ha. This is just a nice moreish crunch with every spoonful.

These pots are so handy and taste delicious which I wasn't expecting because protein has a very distinctive taste to it even if covered in chocolate.

Oh thats a good idea ELEAT people? How about chocolate coated crunch? You could use that special pink chocolate?

Not good

This cereal is incredibly powdery and bland. Would steer clear.

Just great

As someone who's always taken my nutrition seriously, this fits the bill perfectly. It's great tasting (not overly sweet) and it's an easy way to add extra protein to my day with a great tasting snack.

After buying this on My GYm Supplements to try I've gone ahead and started a subscription with them directly. Well worth it.

Delicious and Packed with Protein

Mocha cereal is a great start to the day. My 50g portion with Greek yoghurt and berries set me up for the day and my morning at the gym. It's a great flavour, but not too sweet. I would recommend this to everyone.
